: Patriotism is man's inherent characteristic. The soil, water, sky, air, environment, culture--all these things of a specific country nourish the people living therein. So man's body, mind, soul-the total being—is nurtured by various elements of his country. Consequently, the love that he has for his country is full of gratefulness dutifulness and responsibility. Selected Essays mundane possessions to protect the fame and independence of his country. As long as he is not able to regain the lost fame and independence of his country, life seems unbearable to him. To establish discipline, happiness, and to ensure affluence in peace times, the patriot works his best towards the accomplishment of the overall goals of his country by exerting all his might, honesty, and capability. The incurable impetus in his mind drives him towards the fulfillment of his desire.

Another major characteristic of patriotism is that of the patriot, his own country is the best of all in the world. He compares his country to no other country in the world to justify her supremacy. To him, the soil of his country is poorer than gold. He loves a dog of his motherland more than a priest of another country. To him, the appeal of patriotism is beyond all reasoning.

The patriotism of poets and authors is most reflected in their love of Nature and her beauty. They discern an inseparable bond of their motherland with their hearts; they compose songs, poems, stories, novels, and dramas on various beautiful aspects of their motherland. They thus render their patriotism imperishable and reflectable in the hearts of others.

For example, Titumir, the lion-hearted patriot, fought the well-armed and well-equipped English soldiers only relying on his own patriotism, boldness, and confidence. Titumir was killed, but not defeated. He died only to escape death forever. Being instigated by the same patriotic feeling, Mir Kashim held his sword against the English and died. Haji Muhammad Muhsin, the great philanthropic religious person of the sub-continent, gave away all his wealth to the well-being of people of his motherland. He had tried hard to do good to his countrymen till the very day of his death.

The most outstanding example of patriotic sacrifice would be left unmentioned if the sacrifice of the freedom-fighters of 1952 and 1971 were not referred to. These golden sons of Bangladesh have made a unique history of patriotism, which the nation will never forget. Such an example of patriotism, indeed, is rare in the world's history.

A patriot is the most honourable man in the society. Even if he dies for the sake of his country, he remains alive in the hearts of people. But it is to be remembered that patriots are not always to be looked for in the history; they can be seen all over the country, and always. We all should respect them the perfect way.

Patriotism essay

Patriotism essay -Introduction: Patriotism, for most human beings, is an innate virtue. Human's commonest disposition is to love his own country and fellow country-men, If needed, one is ready to stand by his or her country, to work for her and even to lay down his or her life for her when she is in danger.

Causes of love: Man loves his country because she gives him shelter, livelihood, security and a sense of pride. He knows his wellbeing lies in his country's well-being. A prosperous, well-governed and welfare state provides her people with all the amenities. People living in the country can enjoy social, political and state rights and privileges.

So they feel the true and real love for the country. But, the story of patriotism is not a mere love and sacrifice. It is often of hatred and indifference. This is true especially in the case of those countries which are very poor, governed by bandits and looters, suck off the blood of their own people.

Human trait: Patriotism although is a universal human trait is often worn torn away by the state herself. In a poor country, people who do not manage to make proper use of their chances of getting educated or trained enough to get a job take up politics. These opportunists do everything wrong unethical and corrupt to get their way and eventually seize state power. Once in power, they use their authority to make their own fortune cruelly and irresponsibly, because, they become impervious to all criticisms.

It is their own people who suffer because of their sins. If you walk across the remotest part of the poorest countries of Asia, Africa or Latin America, you will hear only one grievance. There is none in our government to think about us," Thus poor people of the poor country become indifferent to their state affairs and lose the sense of patriotism, such people would have become as patriotic as a Simon Boliver or an Abraham Lincoln if they had a caring government or leader who would make their lives a bit easier.

The state of patriotism in a prosperous country is quite different. People of a wealthy country simply love their country because the state provides them with everything like; shelter, education, job, and security. But often patriotism crosses the parameter of decorum such patriotism is called chauvinism.

State of Patriotism: A begot patriotism or chauvinism is a perpetual cause of war. And chauvinism flourishes whenever there is a war. Hitler's chauvinism caused World War II. All wars are caused by similar' sentiments.

One of the greatest patriots in history George Washington, the first president of the United States of America, once wrote to a friend, "A great and lasting war can never be supported on the principle of chauvinism alone," George Bernard Shaw said," You will never have a quiet world till you knock this patriotism out of the human race," Patriotism often makes us unjust, unfair and ingenious in our estimation of other people.

Every nation, every race has something definite and distinctive to contribute to the cultural heritage of the world. It is foolish to say that any nation has all the monopoly of God's good gifts. Such emotions beget fanaticism. It is a religious fanaticism which was imposed on our people during the Pakistan period. As a result, the state of Pakistan failed drastically.

Above all, whenever we are ready to launch forth in a career of national zeal, let us remember Edith Cavell's noble world." I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone," It is just what Jesus Christ proclaimed from the cross, what Mahatma Gandhi preached from behind the bar, patriotism is good, but it must not supersede this feeling of universal love for all humanity. It must not make us indifferent to the growing concept of one world.

Conclusion: Patriotism means love for one's own country and willingness to defend it. But chauvinism is a zeal for one's own country and craze to expand it. In the name of patriotic zeal, a war is never expected.
