The very first element of nationality is mother tongue. Our mother tongue is Bangla. We have to struggle and sacrifice life to get the freedom speaking. Our brave people sacrifice their blood for the sake of Mother’s tongue on 21st February 1952. In November 1999, in the UNESCO announced Ekushey February as the ‘ International Language Day ‘.Our Mother language gained the international recognition by this announcement.
Background of 21st February
Bangladesh is the only country in the world that has sacrificed their lives and run movement in her mother tongue. On 14 August 1947, Pakistan gained independence. Immediately after independence, the government of Pakistan took the initiative to make the language of Urdu as a state language. In 1947, a resolution was adopted to make Urdu the state language of Pakistan. But at that time most of the people of Pakistan expressed their feelings in Bangla language. In the same context, on March 11, 1948, the first movement was demonstrated in East Bengal demanding Bangla language. Sheikh Mujib was arrested on this issue. On March 21, 1948, the governor of Pakistan declared Urdu as Pakistan’s only state language. On February 20, 1952, the condition of Section 144 was declared in whole Dhaka. But on February 21, 1952, the meeting was held in Amtala of Dhaka University. Section 144 violated and rallies were held. Police shot and martyred Salam, Rafiq, Jabbar, Barkat, Shafiur and many others. In the same context, the All-Party State Language Council headed by Maulana Bhasani decided to observe the ”Language Day ” on February 21, 1952.
Entrepreneur of Recognition
“Mother Language Of The World” is the first organization of Canadian emigrant Bangalis to undertake such initiatives. But according to UN recommendations, they requested the Bangladesh Education Ministry to take such an initiative. Later on receiving the approval of the Prime Minister on September 9, 1999, the formal proposal was sent to UNESCO headquarters. On October 28, 1999, the Minister of Education in the UNESCO General Assembly proposed to declare Ekushey February as ‘ International Mother Language Day ‘. 27 countries support this proposal to support 27 countries. On November 17, 1999, at the 31st Conference of the UNESCO ” February 21st, ” International Mother language Day’ As a celebration. Bangla language has now been recognized as the sweetest of the world.
International Mother Language Day
21 February will be changed every year as International Mother Language Day. In the 188 countries of the world “21st February 1952”, we will celebrate Amar Ekushey February ‘ International Mother Language Day ‘ with a deep respect for martyrs in our great language movement. By which all the nation, including small minorities and nations, will be encouraged to defend their mother language and take strong commitment to carry its heritage.

The most powerful tool to preserve the cultural heritage i/h2s the language. The introduction of mother language will not only promote linguistic diversity and much language-based education. It will contribute to the development and understanding of linguistic and cultural heritage. World solidarity will be strengthened based on mutual understanding, tolerance, and dialogue. Therefore, ‘International Mother Language Day’ will play an effective role in the development and spread of mother language. In this, all small nations of the world will inspire their language to become more prosperous and powerful. On the other hand, we would be proud to be known by the Bengali nation, at the international level.

Like our country, 188 countries like our country are celebrated as ‘International Mother Language Day’. They glorify our language martyrs by remembering all the whiteness of the heart. What’s bigger than that, what’s a big demand and what’s ours? We are a truly proud nation. We are proud of our mother tongue. The martyrs have reached us in the honor of the world.
