Good manners are the external expressions of one's inner goodness and education. They generate a good and welcome response. Here goes a maxim, "One good turn deserves another."

How to acquire: Good manners can be acquired from good dealings and behavior. But communities and societies can behave well or rudely in accordance with their levels. Well developed societies show much regards or respects to their elders. Because they learn this from an observation of their ancestors or pre-built heritage.

Good manners can be inherited from good, educated, and well-mannered or well-behaved families. So goes a wise saying, "A good turn deserves another" Another maxim in support of it goes"A good company makes a man good while a bad one makes him bad." If anyone becomes accustomed to good manners or behave well, he can under no circumstances mishave with anyone.

Man's attitude: Man is a rational being. He is heavenly or divinely declared as "Ashraful Makhtlukat"- the noblest creation. His rationality urges him to probe the mysteries of nature, to consider the elements, reach the moon and go beyond extension. He cannot remain sitting idly. It always stimulates him to evolve higher until he achieves perfection. His great thirst and hunger for knowledge and enlightenment now know no bounds. He strives hard to know the art of exhibiting good conduct.

Principles of good manners: The principles of good manners and etiquettes make life pleasant, smooth and easy. Hence man makes manners and manners make him a real man. They reflect each other and go together. Good manners form the very foundation of our culture and civilization.

Usefulness: Good manners help a man turn friendly even to an enemy. The holy prophet (Sm) learned good manners from heaven. He could easily lift the curtail and developed a friendship with all by dint of good manners. If all the members of a family are well mannered and well-behaved, it will be a civilized and aristocratic family.

Manners and mannerism: Good manners and mannerisms are two different things. Mannerism makes a man look laughable, unnatural and comical for it is a slavish imitation of behavior. At times people develop mannerism, speak and deal in a typical or whimsical way. So this should not obediently be followed but cruelly be avoided.

Importance: Good manners also demand equal behavior with all and sundry without any distinction between caste and creed. It does not tell us to behave well only with our near and dear ones. They urge us to stand up in the presence of elders and senior citizens. Good manners and civilization are closely linked. These are painstakingly taught and labouriously cultivated in all institutions and families.

In ancient times the princes and princes were sent even to courtesans to learn and cultivate good manners because the former was a model of etiquette and polite behavior. Good manners do not have any exaggeration in it.

Gold is always gold whether it is in possession of any rich or poor man. Hence, good manners should be learned from any person. The principles of good manners should always be followed and adhered to them because they make life so pleasant, smooth, and easy.

Conclusion: Good manners indicate good dealings, behavior, conduct etc. It makes a man real man who under no circumstances misbehaves with anyone.
